The invention proposes a flowmeter which is used, in particular, for measuring the quantity of air drawn in by an internal combustion engine via the intake air pipe. The flowmeter comprises a housing (2) defining a cross-section (3) of flow of a measuring section. The cross-section (3) of flow of the measuring section has a cylindrical portion (8), which is arranged in such a way that a plane (34) of alignment extending perpendicularly to the centre line (9) and dividing the cylindrical portion (8) passes through the centre of rotation (4) of a measuring flap (5) which, in its rest position, occupies a position in the cylindrical portion (8) and the faces (13, 14) of which are as far as possible parallel to the plane (34) of alignment. It is thereby possible to achieve as small a gap width (a) as possible between the circumference (16) of the measuring flap (5) and the wall (17) of the cylindrical portion (8). The measuring flap (5) is secured on a pivoted lever (6) and mounted to pivot about the centre of rotation (4). <IMAGE>
