The invention relates to a cam shaft, in particular for the actuation of intake/exhaust valves on internal combustion engines, having at least one cam, which merges into a centric cam base of larger diameter than the cam shaft, the width of which is much less than the width of the cam. To avoid defects of form in the manufacture of the cam and to avoid non-uniform wear on the friction partner of the cam, the cam base extends obliquely to the plane of rotation from one side of the cam to the other.
