A motor vehicle has an auxiliary frame which is attached to the superstructure of the vehicle and consists of longitudinal members and cross-members. The auxiliary frame bears a transmission or the like and has guide elements of a pair of wheels coupled to it. In order to obtain, with a low degree of technical complexity, a vehicle which is completely suitable for off-road driving and in which any damage to vehicle components due to rear-end collisions is avoided, the auxiliary frame (1) has longitudinal members (2) which extend underneath the transmission (7) and serve as runners. With coupling points (8, 9), arranged above the sliding face of the runners, of the guide elements (10) of the pair of wheels the auxiliary frame is constructed as a protective frame. <IMAGE>
