In order to permit reliable parking of a motor vehicle in, for example, a garage with optimum utilisation of space, a parking aid is proposed which comprises an element which is to be associated with an orientation element and is provided on the motor vehicle. With precise alignment of the orientation element with the other element constituting for example a position cone, a visual or audible signal can be issued.
