The invention relates to 17 alpha -substituted equilenin derivatives of the general formula I <IMAGE> in which n denotes the numbers 0 or 1 to 3 and R<1> represents a hydrogen atom or a C1-4-acyl radical. These compounds have a potent inhibitory effect on progesterone biosynthesis and can be used for postcoital fertility control.
