PURPOSE:To reduce the width of a crank bearing and to decrease the total size of an engine, by a method wherein the axes of two connecting rods of an expansion piston and a compression piston are moved on the same plane. CONSTITUTION:An expansion cylinder 115 and a compression cylinder 155 are protruded upward from a crank case 101. The one end of a heating tube 231 of a heater is connected to the upper part of the expansion cylinder 115, and the other end of the heating tube 231 is connected to a reproducing chamber 229. A cooling tube 207 is connected to the compression cylinder 155, and the other end of the cooling tube is connected to the reproducing chamber 229. An expansion piston 125 in the expansion cylinder 115 and a compression piston 165 in the compression cylinder 155 are coupled to a crank shaft 105 through connecting rods 109 and 111, respectively. The two pistons are reciprocated in a specified phase difference, for example, 90 deg., and are positioned so that the axes thereof move on the same plane. |
