A protective device against break-throughs to an object to be protected, for example a lock, an alarm system or the like, has a protective plate, preferably made of material difficult to cut, and a release loaded by this. The protective plate is movable transversely to its extension and, in the event of such a movement, can actuate the release. Such a movement occurs either as a result of a displacement of the plate counter to the forces of springs in the event of a mechanical attack or as a result of particular expansions of regions of the plate in the event of an attack with a thermal tool. The release can either itself form a barrier, or free barriers which then additionally form obstacles, actuate alarm systems, etc.
