摘要

PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic recording medium having superior characteristics in a range from low frequency to high frequency by coating a molded polymer substrate with a magnetic layer, forming an org. substance layer having a smoother surface than the magnetic layer on the magnetic layer, and vapor- depositing a ferromagnetic metallic thin film on the org. substance layer. CONSTITUTION:A molded polymer substrate 30 of polyethylene terephthalate or the like is coated with a magnetic layer 31 contg. magnetic powder of Co-gamma or the like dispersed in a binder, and the layer 31 is oriented in a magnetic field. An org. substance layer 32 of polyvinyl butyral or the like is formed on the layer 31 so that the layer 32 has a smoother surface than the layer 31. A metallic thin film 33 of Al is vapor-deposited on the layer 32 in a vacuum device under 10<-4>-10<-5>Torr pressure, and a magnetic layer 34 of a Co-Ni alloy or the like having larger coercive force than the layer 31 is formed. A lubricating protective layer 35 of thermosetting resin is then formed on the surface of the layer 34. The layer 34 may be directly formed on the layer 32 without depositing the film 33. A magnetic recording medium having superior recording and reproducing characteristics in a range from low frequency to high frequency is obtd.
