<p>Prodn. of w/o emulsions contg. finely divided coal is carried out by grinding moist coal, mixing with a water-immiscible oil and opt. added water, and subjecting the mixt. to agitation with vibrations having an intensity of at least 11.625 W/square cm to cause cavitation. - Coal with a moisture content of 40-50 wt.% can be used without added water; for coals with a lower moisture content, water should be added to the coal and/or the coal/oil mixt. before agitation, opt. together with an alkaline reagent (esp. limestone or lime). Excess oil can be used and removed as a separate phase after agitation. The alkaline reagent is pref. added as a slurry in excess of (esp. at least twice) the stoichiometric amt. required to react with the S in the coal and/or oil. - The process does not require a dry feed coal (cf. Parent Patent).</p> |
