PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic recording medium for high density recording having shelf stability, high output and a high S/N by combinedly incorporating a specified titanium coupling agent and lecithin into a binder in a magnetic layer to enable the uniform dispersion of magnetic powder. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic coating material is prepd. by kneading magnetic powder with one or more kinds of titanium coupling agents selected from coupling agents represented by formulae I -IV [where each of R<1> and R<2> is a (substituted) hydrocarbon group, R<1> is straight chain or branched hydrocarbon, R<2> is said hydrocarbon or aromatic hydrocarbon, R<3> is a bivalent org. group, and (n) is 0-3], lecithin as a dispersant, a known binder resin and a solvent. The amount of the coupling agents is 0.5-15pts.wt. per 100pts.wt. magnetic powder, and the amount of lecithin is 1-20pts.wt. per 100pts.wt. binder. A pigment such as carbon black, a lubricant, an antistatic agent, etc. may be added furthermore. The coating material is applied to a support film to form a magnetic layer. The uniform dispersibility of the magnetic powder and the bonding strength to the binder are improved, so a magnetic tape or the like scattering no powder and having superior traveling stability, wear resistance and a high S/N is obtd. |
