997,678. Airships. AEREON CORPORATION. Jan. 29, 1963 [Jan. 31, 1962], No. 3561/63. Heading B7W. An airship has a rigid framework comprising a plurality of ring frames 20, each connected to a ring 46 (Fig. 3). The rings 46 form connections for bracing wires or rods 44 which are adjustable in length, and are used to support cars 18 and 16. Each frame 20 comprises a plurality of peripheral struts 28 secured together, for example by welding, and to radially extending posts 30, to which the wires or rods 44 are connected. Bracing members 34, 36 are also provided, and the ring frames are secured together by longerons 22 (Fig. 1) and diagonal bracing wire or rods 24, 25 (Fig. 2). Between the ring frames 20 are disposed other ring frames 43 which comprise only the peripheral struts. The longerons terminate at the rear end in a thrust bearing for a propeller 12. The airship is supported by gas bags 62, constrained against longitudinal movement by the wires or rods 44. The outer envelope may be of metal, fabric or synthetic plastics. |
