A method of cutting a continuously moving ribbon of glass comprises supporting the ribboe on a fluid film (e.g. air) transversely scoring th moving ribbon supported on the fluid film and finally severing the ribbon along the score line to produce sheets of glass. A continuous ribbon of glass is conveyed on to a table 13 the upper surface of which has holes 14 (Figs. 2, 3, not shown) for the passage of air under pressure thus forming a support film for the ribbon. The ribbon passes under a bridge 19 along which a scoring device 18 (Fig. 1, not shown) travels transversely across the ribbon face. The scored ribbon then passes to a severing device 23 where it is snapped along the score line by breaker-rolls. The sheets thus produced are then rapidly conveyed away. A pulse generator 30 controls the timing of the scoring device and the snapping device 23, and also calculates the frequency of the scores to be made.
