PURPOSE:To adjust finely a stand-off distance during cutting of a base metal and to maintain the same constant at all times by the cooperation of a sensor which detects the stand off distance between a torch and the base metal and a servo motor which drives a mechanism for moving vertically the torch. CONSTITUTION:A rack 7a on the upper outside surface of a torch 2' is meshed with a pinion 7b at the support arm 6 of a manipulator and is driven by a servocontrol motor 8 to enable vertical movement of the torch 2'. Cutting is then started, and the stand off distance H between the torch 2' and a base metal 1 is detected by an equiangular three-way sensor 9 provided around the lower part of the torch 2'. The motor 8 is driven by the signal thereof and the torch 2' is moved upward or downward by the cooperation of the pinion 7b and the rack 7a whereby the distance H is finely adjusted. The extent of the upward or downward movement is fed back and is further precisely controlled. The always specified stand off distance is thus assured and the cutting is continued. |
