PURPOSE:To decrease variations in the firing potential and the open-circuit potential of a battery and obtain a high firing potential by keeping the battery in an atmosphere of a temperature higher than during its assembly before part of the electric capacity is discharged. CONSTITUTION:A battery is assembled and sealed which is constituted by using carbon fluoride as a principal positive material, lithium metal as a negative material and nonaqueous electrolyte. After that, the battery is kept at a high temperature, for example, at 45 deg.C, for a given time, for example, 24hr before it is subjected to preliminary discharge at the same temperature or a temperature a little higher than the above temperature. Keeping the battery in an atmosphere of a temperature of 30-60 deg.C before preliminary discharge decreases the variation of the battery. In addition, keeping the battery at a higher temperature tends to decrease the variation in a relatively shorter time, and it is recommended that the battery is kept for more than 16hr in an atmosphere of 30 deg.C. When the degree of preliminary discharge is within the preferred range which is 1.5- 3% of the electric capacity of carbon fluoride, the preservation performance does not decrease. |
