The invention concerns a telescopic upright 1 for upholding the roof tree 3, 4 of a covered vehicle, arranged vertically between the platform 2 of the vehicle and the said roof tree and making it possible, by modification of its length obtained by mutual sliding, then locking of its constituting elements 1a, 1b, to raise or lower the roof tree. These elements 1a, 1b are linked by a gas spring 10 whose action tends to cause them to slide mutually in a direction to increase the length of the upright 1, the force of this spring being similar to the weight of the load which the upright 1 supports. <IMAGE>
