Mechanical handling means for attachment to a tractor comprises a casing 10 in which is rotatably supported a king-post 18 carrying a pivotally mounted boom 24, the king post having secured to its lower end a pinion engaged by a rack reciprocated by fluid-pressure operated means 76 to rotate the king post, and stabilising legs 120 pivoted to the casing and movable by piston and cylinder devices 124 to and from ground engaging positions. The casing 10 is a one-piece steel casting and is supported by a three-point linkage 12, 14 of the tractor, and its lower end is closed to provide an oil bath for the pinion and rack. Cooperating stops 84, 86 are provided on the post and casing, the stops 86 including rubber buffers 94 and the stop 84 being adjustable on the post.
