The invention relates to a bottle opener in the form of an elongated, flat parallelepiped. The parallelepiped is penetrated at one end by a flat, substantially rectangular channel, the longitudinal axis of which runs obliquely to the longitudinal axis of the parallelepiped. The crown cork of a bottle to be opened can be introduced from both sides into the flat channel, so that one edge of the channel engages under the crown-cork edge and the other opposite edge lying on the same side of the parallelepiped is supported on the end face of the crown cork. Owing to the obliquely running channel, the bottle can be opened with the bottle opener both by compressive force and by lifting force. The smooth outer shape fits snugly in the operator's hand and facilitates cleaning. <IMAGE>
