Projections 32 are removed from an elastomeric moulded article, such as a tyre, by a device 12 comprising a pair of parallel rollers 20 with lengthwise extending intermeshing teeth, and into the nip of which the projections extend whereby the projections are pulled off. One roller is motor-driven and the device moves relative the article. The rollers are relatively long, narrow and flexible, and are supported in bearings in a frame 40 which includes a guide roller 100 and a presser foot 80; the latter may be replaced by a further guide roller. In Fig. 5 a tyre is rotated about its axis on a table 120, and devices 12 are adjustably supported adjacent the tyre; for the latter purpose a stud 122 is adjustably clamped to a shaft 42 of the frame of each device and the stud is adjustably secured to a crosshead 124 vertically adjusted by a fluid motor 128. |
