The invention relates to a mechanism for setting the seating height above a limit line. In order to reduce the weight of the vehicle in which the seat is to be installed, it is proposed according to the invention that the mechanism should have two pairs of levers (12, 13) which are arranged horizontally with spacing, the levers of each pair being connected to one another in a scissor-like fashion in such a way that each lever of each pair (12, 13) has an upper end and a lower end, the upper end of which is connected to the seat and the lower end of which is connected to the floor, that springs (25, 40) act at any time in order to move the seat in relation to the floor and that catch means are intended to arrest the seat at a number of vertical settings above the level of the floor, in each case one setting at a specific time. <IMAGE>
