[Also in Division H1] Apparatus for the study of light transmission through paramagnetic substances immersed in microwave fields comprises a cavity resonator 15 containing a capsule 18 for a solution of a sample. Access waveguides 1, 17, dimensioned below cut-off, are provided respectively with a light source 21 and a detector (not shown). In addition to the microwave field, the sample is also subject to a steady magnetic field provided by electromagnet 20 and to a parallel modulating field (for measurement purposes) provided by coils 20<SP>1</SP> (one shown). The apparatus enables simultaneous measurements of light absorption and electron resonance to be made. |
