In a stepladder with two legs (101, 102) which are interconnected pivotably in the region of their upper end and which in each case consist of two uprights (107 or 103), and with plate-shaped steps (110, 110', 110'') which are arranged between the legs (101 and 102) and are articulated in the region of their front ends on the uprights (107) of one leg (101) and in the region of their rear ends on two connecting bars (116) which run parallel to the adjacent uprights (107), the height, measured in the longitudinal direction of the legs (101, 102), of the completely collapsed ladder in the presence of three steps (110, 110', 110'') amounts to less than 80 cm with a step height of at least 23 cm. <IMAGE>
