PURPOSE:To increase the recovery rate of albumin and to obtain serum having no danger of hepatitis infection, by detoxifying noxious substance in serum by successively mounting an apparatus for irradiating serum with radioactive rays and a filtering or an adsorbing means between a serum introducing part and a treated serum discharge part in this order. CONSTITUTION:Serum is flowed to a tubular or a transfusion pack shaped radioactive-ray irradiation part 2 comprising a material such as polyethylene generating no chemical change caused by radioactive rays and continuously or intermittently irradiated with radioactive rays from a radioactive-ray source such as <60>Co, <137>Cs or Linac. The intensity and the amount of radiation is regulated to such a range that macromolecular noxious substances such as immune composite, the antibody and the nucleic acid in serum are decomposed and detoxified but low molecular useful substances such as albumin are not damaged. In the next step, treated serum is passed through an adsorbing means 3 such as activated carbon or a permselective membrane 3 having an average pore size of about 0.03-0.3mum while purified serum from which noxious substances are removed is taken out to a discharge part 4. The residual filtrate of the permselective membrane 5 may be refluxed to the irradiation part by a liquid supply apparatus to be mixed in new serum to be subjected to re-treatment. By this method, innoxious serum for treatment is obtained in a good albumin recovery rate. |
