<p>PURPOSE:To raise the charging effciency of an engine at the time of its high- load, high-speed operation, by utilizing the effect of exhaust-gas interference caused by a high-load intake system and the individual effect of intake-air pulsation caused by a low-load intake system. CONSTITUTION:Compression wave produced near an intake port 14 of a second high-load intake passage 10b when the port 14 is opened is transmitted to an intake port 14 of a first cylinder 1A at the end of suction stroke via the second high-load intake passage 10b, a connecting passage 16 and a first high-load intake passage 10a (effect of exhaust-gas interference). On the other hand, expansion wave produced in a first low-load intake passage 9a after a low-load intake valve 13 of the first cylinder 1A is opened is transmitted to the low-load intake port 13 at the end of suction stroke of the first cylinder 1A via the first low-load intake passage 9a, an expansion chamber 18, the first low-load intake passage 9a, a combustion chamber 2, the first low-load intake passage 9a, the expansion chamber 18 and the first low-load intake passage 9a (individual effect of intake-air pulsation).</p> |
