A method is disclosed for spreading seeds on soils covered with live or dead plants and for subsequently covering the seed grains in one and the same mechanized operation. The plants and the dead plant material are first removed from the soil and then transported over a seed distribution device. The plants are then deposited on the seeded soil behind the seed distribution and act as a covering layer.
