A hydraulic block splitter comprises two pressure jaws which can be inserted into a drill hole and accommodate a sliding wedge (18) between them in a displaceable manner. When the sliding wedge (18) is driven deeper into the drill hole by means of a hydraulic cylinder, the pressure jaws are spread apart. According to the invention, each of the pressure jaws is connected to the hydraulic cylinder via two pairs of leaf springs (30) arranged parallel to one another at a distance apart. The two leaf-spring pairs are arranged on opposite sides of the sliding wedge (18) and in each case bear tightly against the corresponding leaf-spring pairs of the other pressure jaw. Whereas the bottom ends of the leaf-spring pairs are rigidly connected to the pressure jaws, the top ends are connected to the hydraulic cylinder via yielding elastic elements (52), so that the leaf springs and the pressure jaws - for example during retraction of the sliding wedge (18) from the drill hole - can be displaced upwards with deformation of the elastic elements without the leaf springs deviating laterally or deflecting. The upwards movement of the pressure jaws and the leaf springs is limited by two pairs of limiting bars which extend downwards from the cylinder body of the hydraulic cylinder and end close above the top ends of the pressure jaws when the pressure jaws are in the normal position.
