PURPOSE:To provide the titled unit with a miniaturized waste ink reservoir eliminating waste by arranging a suction unit for each nozzle to sucking the nozzle tips so that only a nozzle suffering a deficiency of printing and failure in discharging is recovered and sucked. CONSTITUTION:Ink-on-demand type inkjet nozzles 6A-6D are respectively housed in subtanks 1A-1D of a printing head 1. Cap holders 8A-8D are mounted slidably on the base 9 of a suction recovery unit 7. When the nozzle 6A suffers a poor discharge, the nozzles 6A-6D stop the carriage at the position where the caps 10A-10D face closed suction ports 14A-14D and an upper lever of the cap holder 8A facing the nozzle 6A is moved to close the tip of the nozzle 6A with a suction port 14A. Under such a condition, a piston 13A is operated to render the pressure in a pump 12A negative so that ink is sucked from the nozzle 6A through a suction tube 11A. |
