A method of treating the reaction products of the catalytic hydroformylation of an olefin or olefins comprises distilling from the reaction products the aldehydes having one or more carbon atom than the olefins, distilling from the residue so produced volatile organic compounds leaving hydroformylation catalyst in the residue, and hydrogenating the distilled organic compounds so as to produce the corresponding alcohols, which may then be separated from one another by distillation.
