PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic recording medium for a VTR, etc. having improved skew and wear resistance by coating a magnetic layer contg. polyisocyanate and having a moisture content at a specific value or above on a substrate having a thermal shrinkage rate in a longitudinal direction at a specific value or above then subjecting the same to a heat treatment. CONSTITUTION:A coating liquid which is prepd. by dispersing magnetic powder in a mixture contg. a vinyl chloride-vinyl acetate-maleic acid copolymer or the like or nitrocellulose as a main binder and contg. polyurethane and polyisocyanate and is controlled to contain >=0.35% moisture to permit easy curing reaction is coated on the surface of a non-magnetic substrate of polyester, fibrous polymer, etc., of which the thermal shrinkage rate in the longitudinal direction is <=0.15% in the value measured by causing thermal shrinkage at 70 deg.C at free of tension for 48hr. The coating is heat-treated for 20-60hr at 30-70 deg.C after the application. The skew and wear resistance are thus improved without giving adverse influence on other characteristics. |
