PRODUCTION OF VERTICAL MAGNETIC RECORDING MEDIUM

PURPOSE:To provide a compsn. which is specified over the entire width in the stage of evaporating Co and Cr from the plural vaporating source and forming continuously a Co-Cr vertical magnetization film by a vacuum deposition method on a substrate by performing vapor deposition while supplying Cr from plural Cr supply paths which are disposed symmetrically with the center in the width direction of the substrate. CONSTITUTION:The formation of a Co-Cr vertical magnetization film on a substrate film 1 by a vacuum deposition method is accomplished by evaporating Co- Cr from a crucible 6 contg. a Co-Cr alloy 7 while moving the substrate 1 from a roller 3 to a roll 4 along a cylindrical can. Since Cr evaporates at a higher speed than Co, the Cr is continuously supplied from a supply tank 8 for granular Cr through a supply path 9 in order to deposit the same by evaporation with the uniform compsn. over the entire length. Whereas it is difficult to deposit the same by evaporation uniformly over the entire width with one supply path. Thereupon, plural supply tanks 8 and supply paths 9 are provided to supply Cr so that the vapor deposition with the uniform compsn. is accomplished over the entire length and width. A magnetic recording medium having a uniform characteristic is thus obtd. at a high speed.
