The device consists of an optical fibre 2 twisted along its axis and wound as a solenoid around the electrical conductor 1 carrying the current to be measured. A source of polarised light 5 is placed at the entrance 3 to the optical fibre 2 and a system 7, 8, 9, 10 for measuring the angle of rotation of the plane of polarisation of the light is placed at the exit 6 from the fibre 2. The fibre 2 consists of at least two parts twisted in opposite directions. The numbers of twisted turns in the whole fibre in the two directions are equal. <IMAGE>
