PURPOSE:To simplify constitution of a device, by a method wherein, when an AF part is additionally provided for separating a document through detection of arrival of the document at the inlet of a DF part for feeding the document to a given position, the detection provides a signal by means of which the AF part stops to effect separating operation. CONSTITUTION:When documents on a placing tray 1 is detected by an AF document sensor 9 and an ADF start switch 39 is turned ON, a pickup roller 2 is lowered, rotation of the pickup roller causes feeding out of the uppermost document to convey it between separating belts 3 and 4. When the document is detected by an AF timing sensor 10, the pickup roller 2 is raised. When the document enters a DF part B from an AF part and the forward end thereof is detected by a DF document sensor 29, the separating belt 4 is pushed down to force the separating belt 4 into an inoperative condition, and a press roller 20 is lowered to convey it to an exposing part. Further, in the case of the DF part B alone, a signal from the sensor 29 becomes a document feed signal. This permits the provision of an ADF mode without changing constitution of the DF. |
