PURPOSE:To obtain a reproducing thin film magnetic head with the high coefficient of magnetoelectric conversion and the reduced dispersion by forming an insulating layer with high dielectric strength between a common bias line and a magneto-resistance element and also forming an insulating layer having the coefficient of thermal expansion almost equal to that of a yoke between the magneto-resistance element and the yoke. CONSTITUTION:A common bias line 1 consisting of Al (alloy) or copper (alloy) is formed on a base A consisting of an annealed magnetic substance such as Ni-Zn ferrite and then an insulating layer 2 such as SiO2 and SiO having wear proof and high dielectric strength, i.e. sufficient insulating property in spite of a thin layer, is formed and etched. Subsequently, the magneto-resistance element 3 is formed on the layer 2 and a lead wire 4 to connect the element 3 is formed. An insulating layer 5 covering the element 3, the lead wire 4, etc. is formed by a material (alumina or the like) having almost the same coefficient of linear expansion as that of a yoke (''Permalloy'' or the like with high magnetic permeability) formed on the layer 5 and then the yoke 6 is formed. Thus, the yoke 6 is prevented from the generation of distortion, the layer 2 is made thin and the interval between the base material A and the yoke 6 is made narrow, so that the coefficient of magnetoelectric conversion is improved and a head having the improved wear proof and durability is obtained. |
