This device is intended to protect a high-voltage chopper transistor 1, the control of which is slaved to the value of the load 2 of the rectifier setup, by virtue of a measurement of the deviation V between the power P dissipated in the load 2 and a reference power P0, followed by a conversion of this measurement into a time measurement made by comparing the deviation V thus determined with a sawtooth signal S. It includes means 6 of servo-controlling the frequency of the sawtooth signal S with the value of the load 2 of the rectifier setup. Application to rectifier setups. <IMAGE>
