The invention relates to a vice-grip wrench comprising a main lever 1 which is integral with a perpendicular support bar 12 on which a first jaw 13 can slide, a second jaw 3 being mounted in an oscillating manner on the said lever 1 and on a toggle joint device forming both an auxiliary operating lever 5 and a device for locking the jaws 3 and 13 in the clamping position by bracing a rod 7 articulated on the auxiliary lever 5 by a spindle 8 and butting against a screw 9 on the main lever 1. This vice-grip wrench is characterised in that the auxiliary lever 5 is fitted with a retractable stop piece 20 against which bears the nose 28 of the rod 7 coupling the levers 1 and 5 in such a way as to limit the opening of the vice-grip wrench when the rod 7 is in abutment, or to allow a greater opening of the jaws 3 and 13 when the rod disengages from the stop piece 20. <IMAGE>
