In cylindrical grinders and lathes in which the workpiece is mounted between centres during its machining, it is often necessary, in order to obtain as far as possible accurate roundness and parallelism, to make slight corrections to the position of the centres, which corrections are called for largely due to unavoidable inaccuracies inside the machine tool. The object is therefore to be able to make these corrections as quickly as possible and with little technical outlay. In the present invention, this object is achieved by the actual centre being arranged on the taper socket carrying it in such a way as to be adjustable relative to the axis of this socket.
