Surface for introducing foil-like material in splitting machines for skins and the like, containing a plate displaceable to and fro on a fixed surface which is supported on a carrier structure. Balls are arranged between the plate and the fixed surface in order to assist the sliding of the plate itself, which is itself equipped with a guide block which, with two rows of balls being interposed, lies in a straight guide fashioned in the fixed surface. Finally, the plate is equipped with means for the automatic return of the latter into the initial position.
