PURPOSE:To absorb a torque variation in a transition period of time with a torque converter for a relief as well as to aim at the promotion of smoothness for driving performance, by keeping a lockup device in a state of stoppage for a specified period of time after an accelerator is opened, when a shift lever changes from acceleration to deceleration at the low speed running range. CONSTITUTION:Receiving each output of an accelerator opening sensor and a select range sensor, a shift lever keeps the operation of a lockup device as it is in a forward range other than a D range and an accelerator is in a fully closed state. When the shift lever is left intact in the forward range and the accelerator is opened from a state of being fully closed, a control unit is made up so as to cause the operation of the lockup device to be forcibly stopped for a specified period. In consequence, and engine's torque variation in time of shifting a car from decelerated running to accelerated running is absorbed and relieved by the sliding action of a torque converter so that the occurrence of discomfortable vibration can be checked. |
