PURPOSE:To maintain flaw detection accuracy, by a method wherein, when an actual flaw detection time reaches the time corresponding to the shoe wear amount previously stored in a memory, the gap between a probe and a material to inspected is corrected to the gap therebetween before the shoe has become worn. CONSTITUTION:The wear amount of a shoe constituting an ultrasonic probe apparatus 3 for a specific unit of time in an actual use thereof is previously measured, and a mean value thereof is stored in a memory 8. When the actual flaw detection time reaches the time corresponding to the means wear value, the apparatus 3 is automatically moved upwardly by the amount corresponding to the wear of the shoe 4 thereby to correct the gap between a probe 5 incorporated in the apparatus 3 and a steel plate 1 to the gap therebetween before the shoe 4 has become worn. Thus, it is possible to prevent variation of flaw detection results and lowering in reliability of flaw detection data. |
