PURPOSE:To improve safety and reliability of operation by judging whether the operation of a supercharger is normal or abnormal according to whether or not the supercharging pressure in an intake pipe reaches a set value determined by the rotational frequency of an engine and stopping the supercharger upon judging abnormalities while opening a supercharging valve. CONSTITUTION:A supercharging pump 28 driven by the rotation of a crank-shaft 25 through a clutch 32, belt 30, etc. is provided betweem supercharging conduits 26, 27 bypassing an intake pipe 12. A supercharging controlling valve 35 is interposed between connections of the supercharging conduits 26, 27 with the intake pipe 12 and inrerlocked with a throttle valve 13 through a linkage 40. Also, an actuator 50 is provided which can open forcibly the supercharging controlling valve 35. When the output of a pressure sensor 54 for detecting pressure in the intake pipe does not reach a specified supercharging pressue obtained from the output of a rotational frequency sensor 56, a supercharging pump 28 is judged to be in failure by a control circuit 34 so that a clutch 32 is disengaged while an actuator 50 is operated to stop the supercharging operation. |
