<p>In a dot matrix printer the dot density printed is controlled by adjustably setting the printing angle of the print head at vertical or at some predetermined angle from the vertical. Setting it at an angle increases the number of passes required to complete a line of print but allows the portion of the line of print in the path of head travel to be completed in one pass at the desired dot density or with the desired degree of dot overlap. A principal advantage of this printer is a cost reduction in the electronic circuitry since all vertically adjacent dots of characters or graphics are printed at one time.</p> |
