Catalyst for reforming (cracking) ethanol and/or methanol in the presence of water contains Ni and Cu oxides and works under the conditions of pressure: 1-50 bars absolute; temp.: 200-600 deg. C; steam/C molar ratio: 0.2-20; and space velocity (in Nm3 of steam-alcohol mixt./m3 of catalyst per hour): 100-3000. - The catalyst pref. contains 35-65% Ni in the form of NiO and 1-10% Cu in the form of CuO. The catalyst support pref. comprises silica in amt. of 25-50%. Prior to use the Ni and Cu oxides are esp. reduced to Ni and Cu with a mixt. of N2 and H2. - Used for prodn. of hydrogen, methane and C oxides from EtOH or MeOH or their mixt. in variable proportions.(0/0)
