The invention comprises compounds of the formula where one of Y 1 and Y 2 is NO 2 and the other is H or halogen, Z 1 and Z 2 are H or halogen, Hal is halogen, particularly chlorine or bromine, R is methoxy or trifluoromethyl, X is 0 or S, n is 0-3, m is 0-2 and at least one of Y 1 , Y 2 , Z 1 and Z 2 is halogen. The compounds are prepared by reacting together compounds of the formulµ wherein one Z 1 is halogen, the other Z 1 and Z 2 and Y are H or halogen, at least one being halogen, at between 100‹ and 200‹ C. in the presence of a strong inorganic base. Mixtures of isomers may be formed. A comparative method for the production of 2-nitro-3-(41-chlorophenoxy) - 4,6 - dichloroaniline from 2 - acetylamino - 3,5,6 - trichloronitrobenzene and pchlorophenol is described. |
