PURPOSE:In a power generating apparatus directly coupled with expander, power converting means and operating medium carrying means, to enable smooth start and stop by providing an operating medium choking means at inlet side of expander while using a motor-generator as power converting means. CONSTITUTION:In a power generating system where operating medium carrying means 3 and steam generator 4 directly coupled coaxially with expander 1, condenser 2 and expander 1 are connected in closed cycle, a motor-generator 13 is used as means for converting power produced from expander 1 to load 8. An operating medium choking means 12 is provided at the inlet side of the expander 1 while an external/internal power source exchange means 14 for interrupting an external power source 11 upon dropping of output from the motor- generator 13 or speed of the expander 1 below predetermined level is provided. It is controlled such that high temperature medium and cooling medium carrying means 9, 10 and motor-generator 13 are started by the external power source 11 while the choking means 12 is opened. |
