The U-sectioned arm rest of a vehicle seat is pivoted to the back 3 and is held in adjusted position by a sliding bolt 15 which engages teeth 17 on a segment 11 secured to the back 3. The bolt is withdrawn by means of a spring urged lever 19 pivoted within the arm rest and extending to the front thereof. The lever and bolt are connected by a pin 23 and a slot 22.
