PURPOSE:To reduce the weight of a connecting rod and to improve the mechanical strength by manufacturing a cylindrical pin member made of fiber reinforcing composite material, a shaft member and a tensile portion for convering the outer peripheral surfaces of both members in a filament method, and uniting the compression portion between both members manufactured separately with adhesives. CONSTITUTION:A connecting rod is formed by fixing a compression portion between a pin member 1 and a shaft member 2 with adhesives and by winding a tensile portion 4 round the peripheries of both members in a filament method thereby to units both members in one body. Though tensile stress works upon the pin member 1 and the shaft member 2, carbon long fibers are peripherally orientated and buried in both members to receive the tensile stress in the axial direction of the carbon fibers, so that both members have sufficient strength. The compression portion 5 copes with compressive stress produced between both members. As the compression portion 5 has a three- dimensional structure of a central tube 51 and a plate piece 52, it provides structural strength for torsional stress as well as compressive stress. The weight of the thus constructed connecting rod is one-third of that made of metal. |
