Method of discrimination of microorganisms, composition and element for the implantation thereof.

Disclosed herein is a method, element and compostion for substantially preventing the reduction of a compound in admixture with a gram-positive microorganism capable of reducing said compound. The method comprises including in said admixture an anionic surfactant in an amount sufficient to inhibit the reduction capability of the gram-positive microorganisms. The method provides a means for rapidly discriminating between gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms. Elements and compositions for implementing the method are also disclosed.
