[Also in Division D1] Apparatus for folding an article of laundry La comprises roller groups Ra, Rb rotated in directions such that parts of the article are advanced towards a throat zone Z when endless conveyer belts 3 are lowered below the top plane of rollers 20 of the two groups. A vertically movable creasing device 29 is lowered in synchronism with lowering of the belts 3 to initiate folding of the article La which is then discharged by a conveyer E. The rollers 20 may be driven by a single motor or from two motors (31, 32), Fig. 7 (not shown). Prior to the folding operation all the rollers may be driven in the same direction to locate a desired fold line of the article directly above the zone Z. The conveyer belts (3) are mounted on a parallelogram linkage (6, 9) operated by a fluid jack (14) under the control of a device (15) for detecting an article to be folded, Fig. 4 (not shown). For forming an offcentre fold in an article, the zone Z may be other than between two equal groups of rollers. In Fig. 1 (not shown), conveyer apparatus adaptable to folding apparatus comprises belt conveyers (1) for feeding the belt conveyers (3); and a belt conveyer (D) for discharging the rollers (20). |
