PURPOSE:To produce a hollow cam shaft having a high effect for reducing weight by embedding, by casting, a pipe having the stepped shape wherein the part to be positioned in the thread cutting part of a cam shaft is made small in diameter and the part except the same is made large in diameter. CONSTITUTION:A stepped pipe 6 united with a small diameter pipe and a large diameter pipe into one body is first produced. A chaplet 5 is beforehand set in the core print parts 3a, 3b of casting molds 2a, 2b divided at a parting line 1 and the pipe 6 is housed therein. A molten metal is charged into the space 7 formed by the molds 2a, 2b, whereby a hollow cam shaft is produced. |
