Prepn. of pyrazolo-benzadiazepin (derivs.) of the formula (I) (where R1 is H or methyl; R2 is methyl or ethyl; and n is 2 or 3) is claimed. - The process comprises (i) methylating or ethylating the corresponding piperazinyl-tetraaza tricyclic cpds; or (ii) acylating the tetraaza tricyclic cpds. of the formula (II) (where R' is as above) with acetic acid derivs. of the formula (III) (where R2 and n are as above and Z is an exit gp.). Opt. the obtd. bases are converted to a and adduct salts or the acid adduct salts are converted to free bases or pharmacologically acceptable acid adduct salts. - (I) and their derivs. are gastrointestinally active.
