ECONOMIZER ASH HOPPER A hopper (22) located beneath a turning gas stream collects and stores ash particles (18) separated from an ash particle laden gas stream (10). Planular plates (24) and (26) provide a longer path for the ash particles to fall before being stored thereby promoting cooling of ash particles during collection. Planular plates (24) and (26) also shield the stored ash particles (38) from heat radiation thereby avoiding sintering, and define the upper bound of a storage location (36) that is not subjected to the turbulence of the gas stream.
